I owned it years ago and I think it had 21 miles at the time. It was still on the MSO. Was a drag car before resto. Great car.
|
Was this the car that was introduced at the Camaro Nationals in Detroit after restoration (early 90s)? I recall an HO ZL1 in the display area there. Every milled surface in the block was re-milled during resto so that the engine looked like new - same car?

Great info also cool pic too! Hope this car does well as how much better can it get than a no nonsense 9560 w/ original lump? :beers: ~ Pete . |

Just a quick search of Mecum show this car has been at auction a number of times: Indy 2017: $550,000 no sale Indy 2016: $600,000 no sale Kissi 2016: $600,000 no sale StCh 2005: $800,000 sold |
You have to factor in one major detail within those 12 years though.
The economy beginning to collapse in 2008,when prices all basically resetting to pre 2000 prices afterwards. |
The car in post #1 was at Kissimmee 2016 where it was a no sale at $625,000
As a matter of fact Mecum hasn't actually sold a ZL1 Camaro since Chicago 2013 when car #23 sold for $500,000 IMO the 1969 ZL1 Camaro just hasn't "bounced back" in price from the Great Recession as other rare muscle cars have. |
Lee, I know you are referencing auctions because that's the information available to you. There are private sales that aren't recorded for higher. There are so few built and sold to get real #'s. Condition integrity/originality is also why prices fluctuate.

The evidence I have presented has to be taken for something. Would you like to make a "gentleman's wager" that the car in post #1: ZL1 #30 is a no sale at $625,000 when it crosses the block in Denver in July? |
... I think this ZL1 will surprise you.
... if you have only one car .... or 200 cars in your collection ... I believe this car would be the center piece for any collection ... you cannot beat Hugger Orange :flag: |
Does the Fan Belt not line up with the Crankshaft Pulley or is it the angle of the photo?
http://s13.postimg.org/714eee06f/image.jpg Yes - the biggest selling feature is the 328 miles on the clock which is probably why it was bid to $75,000 higher than #18. Definitely needs the proper Goodyear Wide Tread F70x14 RWL tires - $2000 to fix that. |
I think the price difference between the two is color, condition and the fact that # 18 has a repo trim tag. Miles mean little on a restored car. Pretty obvious the picture is distorted and makes the belt look crooked.

LOL @ the 18:40 mark When Dana says with Zeal,"He says he's gonna Knock you out...800!"

Yep, short lens on the motor shot, for sure. Guessing ZL-1's are a car-by-car market. And wouldn't be surprised if the top examples, like the Blue RS if/when offered, would set new marks - though maybe they don't "pull-along" the lesser cars as they once did? |
ZL1 #6 silver auto OE drivetrain sold for $715,000 with 10% April 2015.
ZL1 #63 orange 4-speed OE engine sold for $440,000 with 10% last year at a TX auction. Legendary bought it so he must have thought it was under the money. #30 was at Mecum FL 2016, did not meet reserve. |
The auctioneer in the Charley-Colin car is Jim Landis. Jimmy is a local Manheim auctioneer and is one of the best in the business. His Dad, Omar, who has since passed away, owned a small auction in PA and used to promote The Dutchland Collector Car Auction for years. Jim is a real good guy who has sold for me, and sold to me for a long time.

The write up mentions many show awards in '93 and '94, but also says it was restored in 2004. It was restored twice? Gorgeous car, I'd be driving it too. I figured that car would sell, but perhaps Denver was the wrong venue. I think one of the AZ auctions in January would bring more bidders.
|
I remember the guy I sold it to driving it from the Bay area to the Sacramento area to a car show put on by the California Highway Patrol. He was involved in the CHP's 11-99 Foundation. He probably put 200 miles on it that weekend.:3gears:

200 miles in one day in a 69 ZL1 would be like hitting the Lotto!! amazing!
