R&S Chevrolet on MSO. Any info on them available?

I got a copy of the MSO of my 1969 RS Z/28 and it came from R&S Chevrolet in Joplin Missouri. Does anyone have information regarding this dealership or vintage photo's, etc? would love to find an emblem or decal if anyone has one available.. Also need to track down the original owner now.. Anyone from Dodge city Kansas back in the day?

R&S Chevrolet
1600 E 7th St.
Joplin Missouri.

Dealer 689, Zone 05.

Mike North was the high performance salesman at the time.

Not much but a start anyway. Here is a photo of an original R & S trunk emblem on Rick P. car.

Thanks for the info and pic, if anyone has one of those emblems I would love to have it for my car.

From my brief internet search the original owner from the looks of it bought the car with his mother when he was about 19/20yo as it appears he is 62 now and still in dodge city in auto related business. What is the best way to contact? phone, letter, or ?? don't want to scare or shock the guy so what gets best response? It appears he had it until about 1978 or so.

Hey Bill,

There is nothing wrong with a telephone call at a reasonable time, but if you are a patient man the smoothest (least invasive) way is via a hand-written (and addressed) letter with a SASE tucked inside for return correspondence. In your letter ask if it would be o.k. to call and what time of day is best. You might include a snap shot of your car as it sits today.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Sam

P.S. am headin' to the Pavs with the Deuce a bit later on - you goin'?

Thanks everyone for the help.

I finally got in contact with the original owner. Car was raced every weekend at Mokan (sp?) raceway in Asbury missouri. He said he special ordered the car with every performance option he found on the order sheet, cowl induction and a special exhaust that looked like pipes with dimples all over. Had crager SS's day two, every performance shop item he could find. Was a student attending university at pittsburgh kansas automotive tech degree so they blue printed motor within a few weeks of the purchase in the class. Hoping he will share a photo or two and he still has trophies he won with the car and thinks possibly the window sticker but couldn't find it first look. Really nice guy and was great to talk with him and learn some of its history.

Wow...Mokan raceway.

That track is still up and running, and has not changed much. They have an Annual AHRA reunion each fall, which I have been to the last three years.

I bet COPO-2 (Ray M.) raced there back in the day.

R&S was the 4 the oldest/family owned Chevrolet dealership in the nation up until recently.
I'm told they started as R&S Motors in the 1920's.Then in August 1961,they dropped the "Motors" & became R&S Chevrolet, untill just recently when the founding families last active member, son Rob,sold it to new owners & it's now CrossRoads Chevrolet-Cadillac today.
They used a potmetal cursive script on their trunk emblems in the 1950's,then switched to the one I have above, then to a mylar decal soon after, sometime in the late 1970's & beyond.
Henry Robertson told me he was very stingy in ordering Dealership advertising trinkets back in those days.No yardsticks, license plate frames, key chains etc.Just the basics needed to sell a vehicle. He did send me an R&S Chevrolet matchbook form the 1960's,that I display on the dash of my car.
I asked for any past vehicle records on my car,or others, but Rob told me that was all tossed decades ago. They are/were a very small dealership, and space was limited.
Mike North was their Hi-po salesman, and last known in Baxter Springs,Ks.
I have come across a few 1970 Chevelles today that were sold new from R&S.Mine, one LS6 still in Missouri, and one L34 locally. The L34 owner lives near me and attends shows around here.
I contacted the Joplin,Mo. library 10 years ago and they sent me roughly 20 Xerox copies of vintage newspaper ads, advertising R&S Chevrolet from 1967-1973.Many pages of brand new arrivals & OK used cars on their lot.One showing a used 1969 L89 Camaro for 3K.
I only know of 2 Dueces being sold there,1 Cranberry Red,1 Forest green.Marlin may know of another.
