Jon Mello's first Z/28
I had not seen that article. Thanks for posting it, Lynn.
I'm looking forward to bringing the Z to the show. -Jon |
Cool story and beautiful Z!!
You bet. It is a great car Jon. Wish I could be at MCACN this year, but not gonna happen.
And we all thank you for what you bring to the hobby. |
Thank you both. I'm sorry to hear you can't make it to the show, Lynn. Hopefully you can next year.
Well I'm going to be there and looking forward to seeing that great icon of Z/28 Camaro's. The detail and research that went into the restoration is just outstanding.
Thanks Chick and I'll see you at the show.
Can't wait to see this next weekend.
Thanks, Tony. See you there.
Jon, you're looking forward to bringing it and we're looking forward to seeing it. As a first year Z junkie, I don't think this years show can be beat. I can't wait.
Great minds think alike! LOL
Stunning car, and great story. Thanks Jon! Wish I could make it to Chicago this year....
Thanks, Tim. Sorry you can't make it but there's always next year.
Lou Costabile took a video of me with the car at MCACN. There is a short part where you can't hear me very well but overall it turned out well. It may be the last show I do with the car as I would like to sell it and move on to other projects.

Cool car and great story.
Thank You for bringing it to MCACN, it was very special to see it. That's history right there.
Jon,
You need to be congratulated for your perseverance ,dedication, research, and follow through to bring the car back the way you did. And it sure sounds good too! Verne:biggthumpup: |
I want to thank Jon for graciously accepting my request for him to take charge of the 67Z display. I bugged him about it a year ago and he has been on it ever since. He is the go to guy on 67's and probably the only one who knows where they all are. Thanks again, the display was great.
Thanks guys. I really appreciate it. What an awesome show.
Charley, you actually asked me at MCACN in 2015 to do it. A two year head start was not a bad idea. Now I can finally relax a little. Whew! |
Jon is one of those guys that can get things done. No drama or ego and a can do attitude... He put together an amazing display of 12 iconic 67 Z28's. He lives and breathes 67 Z28's and shares his wealth of knowledge as a true historian. A big thank you.... You're a true asset to our hobby and this site!
:beers: |
Very well stated steve, , Jon Lit the fire underneath me as soon as we talk about my Z . And shared his wealth of knowledge and time unconditionally .thanks again jon . Made all worth while seeing those 67z all in a row .
I was hoping to get a chance to talk to Jon about his car and the '67 Z28 that is sitting in the woods near me, but I didn't get the chance. It was a pretty busy weekend. It enjoyed seeing his car.
Thanks Steve and Kirt. I really enjoy the cars and the friendships made because of them.
Freddie, send me a PM if you get a chance. I'd be happy to talk with you and I'm sorry we didn't meet at the show. The time went by all too quickly. |

How about a start on preparing a display of 68 Z/28's for next year? I'm in! :) |
I'm going to try to get some pictures of the '67 Z28 sitting in the woods. If you are trying to account for all 602 of them then this one needs to be on the list. There is also a '68 RS Z28 sitting behind a house in Bremen that has been there for over 40 years, and a '69 Z28 that has been sitting so long that the leaf springs have poked through the floor.
I'm not sure what the plan is for next year's show, Chick. They may not have a dedicated Z28 display like they did this year. I guess we'll find out.
Freddie, I'd love to see pics of that car and please record whatever numbers you can off of it. Thanks for your willingness to do this. |
What I can tell you right now is that it was bought new by Joe Dunlap and it was a white car. I'll try to get the rest of the information in a few weeks.
Won't the owner sell you the car Freddie? Shame to have a Z sitting in the woods!
It's too far gone to save it now. The last owner stripped it before dumping it in the woods.
I thought the 67 Z display was excellent too. It was a pleasure meeting Jon and some of the other owners, seeing their cars and hearing the stories that went with them. Now regarding 68 Z's... did everybody see the early production Tripoli Turquoise with black vinyl top 68 Z out near the barn find area? That was a color combo I had never seen on a 68 Z. Stunning.
