Sand's Chevy Show 2017

Since moving out here, I have gone to the Sand's Chevy Show in Surprise every year. This year was no exception, but the attendance was way down. A Corvette Club runs this show, so most of the cars in the show were late model Corvettes, many fitted with Lambo doors.

Some things that I learned from some attendees;
427's were not available on Big Chevys in 1966.

No 4-speed 1st gen Monte Carlos were ever built at the factory. They were all done by speed shops.

The 454 equipped 1963 Buick Riviera RS was a terrible, trouble-prone car.

I think that was everything. :rolleyes2:

If you were wondering, I am no longer 69supersport396. Being an awesome administrator, Jody changed my user name.

And now for some photos.

Nice cars, thanks. That looks almost like the car Sonny Corleone was gunned down in at the tollbooth, and I never understood why Dodge didn't continue that side stripe on the Super Bee further down the side onto the doors. Thanks again for the very informative post as well as all the nice cars. I didn't know all of those "facts."

That's all for today. Sorry for posting these up late. Got so bored I left the show early, came home, and got involved with car stuff until bed time. The '66 now has a clutch fan, and is SO much quieter.

At least the show was close to your house...since you only stayed for a bit :):3gears:

"most of the cars in the show were late model Corvettes, many fitted with Lambo doors."

That's almost as bad as the things you "learned" from some of the attendees :rolleyes:

Thanks for the show coverage anyway.

CC Rider 03-21-2017 04:15 AM

Thanks guys. :biggthumpup:

I agree Bill. Those Vettes looked ridiculous.

Sheesh-those guys were wrong!

1. 427's were only available in the Corvairs in 1966 :rolleyes2:
2. Only Tremec 5 speeds were available in the Monte Carlos (with the optional clutch pedal):hmmm: :rolleyes2::hmmm:
3. It was a 460 equipped, not a 454 equipped 1963 Riviera!:tongue: :rolleyes2::hmmm:

Juuuuuuuuussssssst kidding!:cool2:

I try not to drink the water of my travel destination. :grin:

I can see someone trying to argue with me about 427's in 66 Chevys, since I own one. But I have no idea why the Monte Carlo and Riviera statements were made to me. None of those cars were even in the show.

It's been known ever since GM made full size cars with 427s. It's in the dealer books, Technical Service Bulletins and brochures for crying out loud . There's a bunch of them still out there. It's not like documentation is purposely being hidden (well, maybe shipping docs). Colvins books have been out for a while too. Those guys must be living in a cave. They'd probably blow a gasket if you and I had our cars parked together.

Xplantdad 03-22-2017 08:44 PM

So...you should bring your car out here Mark! :)
