Documented 1972 Motion Maco Shark Corvette
 

i have been searching on line for info about motion maco sharks dan mcmichels maco is no 5 my maco is no 6 thelast one documented by joel rosen does any body hear any thing about 1 2 3 4 i have heard about one in private collection in w virgina maybe? just cwodering if any one has heard of any thing else

I remember seeing a lot of Maco Corvettes over the years as Motion Performance sold the body kit to build your own Maco

John Silva , who was a Corvette customizer from Ma. built the first Maco Corvettes
They were said to be made from a thick heavy fiberglass

Silva and Motion worked together on some , then Motion began making his own Maco bodies

according to this site, the first 3 were Silva bodies
they say Motion built 3 complete Macos but sold a bunch of kits

----I went to Silva's shop in 71 or 72 after seeing a magazine article on the Mako. If you lived in eastern Mass and were a gear head you knew of John as he did so much Corvette stuff. I believe he also was the first guys to do Corvette wagons, which were sort of forgettable to me. It was an interesting visit, but I never quite warmed up to the Mako wannabe. Maybe because of the cost of building one......Bill S

Did John Silva have a large shop? They show a picture with 5 Maco's in front of a shop and it says he built about 125 of them from 1969 to 1979.

It's interesting that Silva and Motion called it a Maco which was said to not infringe on GM's name of Mako but it looked very similar to GM's Mako Shark II concept car

----Silva's shop was nothing to write home about. Kind of like an oversized chicken coop if I remember correctly. Also not sure if he upgraded from there to a better facility......Bill S

I was under the impression that all silva cars were called short tails because the door propruded in to the rear wheel hole

I have heard that Motion had molds taken from a Silva body but had his made in thinner fiberglass.

I'm not sure but if that's true I would think the bodies would be similar.

From looking at the pictures, some look to have the wheel openings modified and some look to have modifications of the rear windows and to front and rear sections

some of the home built may had been changed by the builders but its hard to say just from looking at the pictures
