I was just going to post this. Would be a great match to my non RS burgundy but not real handy. Not real sure what he did to the engine, doesnt look very stock now. Roller lifters, flat top pistons and race pan?? Guy having no feedback is a concern unless you can go look at the car. Too bad I dont have good way to get it here and who knows what is missing

travlnz28 03-19-2017 06:51 PM

I think I can answer any questions you might have. I sold the car to Mike about 15 years ago. He is a stand up guy and is a fire chief in southern california.

Roller lifters? I like racey stuff myself, so to me that would be a bonus. Looks like a pretty straightforward finish to me. I don't see much I don't like!

"I don't see much I don't like!"..Me neither. A great car to see finished and a possible great deal for someone.

An odd choice in pistons, though.

Listing has been updated, block was decked during rebuild and trim tag is off the car, held hostage by body shop..... pity.

camaromb 03-20-2017 02:25 PM

Looks like a 661 Muncie case too

GaryW 03-20-2017 03:03 PM

Whether it's the original engine block or not, one may as well consider it a replacement, as the block was decked (stamped codes and broach marks gone) and all internals replaced, head studs installed, etc... :(

It appeared to be a nice car to restore before the owner screwed up as above...

Sounds like the vin is by the filter. I got pics of the tranny and it looks to be a 70. 9 to 1 motor with some type of roller cam.

Do you have any of the trim tag info? Could it be a late 69? Could answer the 661 trans case issue. Sad the trim tag was removed.

I was bidding on the car until the add was updated .......... no thank you.
Bummer.....could have been a fun restoration.

As I said previously, I sold the car to Mike around 15 years ago. I called Mike yesterday when I saw the car on this website and helped him clear up a few things. He is not super knowledgable about Camaros. The car has the original motor but it was decked in the 70's when it was rebuilt by Reath Automotive in Long Beach, They were a well known race engine builder back in the day. The original VIN is stamped by the oil filter and I would sign any kind of affidavit that it has not been restamped. Its has the original rear. The trans is a 661 case M21 dated February of 1970 (probably replaced under warranty). The right rear quarter was skinned at some point and should be done correctly.

Here is a picture of the trim tag that I took just after buying the car. It is a X33 D80 car. Most unfortunate the body shop removed it. Mike didn't ask for too much advise after he bought the car from me.

What a shame!

Billohio 03-20-2017 10:41 PM

Transmission stamp is P0B17B

Shame.... Will be issues with the tag. Really, would have liked this car. Of course, the sellers ebay name "michaemoore398" :)
