I had virtually an identical car - ordered new in on Dec11 '67 and delivered in early May of '68 due to a GM strike in I think it was early Feb of that Spring..

Numbers pretty match what my 302 put out on the dyno after rebuilding it back 25 years ago - except mine was .030" over and I had the off road cam in it and it pulled a fair amount less torque early...

Deck has been played with under the 'MO' section.. as already stated there is ghosting under some of the other numbers and the vin numbers especially the last one in the series isn't at all typical.....

When I got my Z2/8 it already had headers - but from the CRG site it states that the manifold holes had threaded in plugs.. and regular pcv setup on the ds valve cover.
And YES the engine in mine...

Broach marks are there admittedly - but I don't know that I have ever seen a stamp that is that deep or that well defined that was ever deemed to be an original one..
There is also some ghosting...

I was led to believe that all '68 solid lifter cars with manual transmissions imported here were smog exempt.. so the L78 would probably qualify and make sense using that logic - fairly small volume...
