We attended one year, when we lived out west.
They had a set of car keys attached to the top of a flag pole. If the balloonist could grab the keys they won the car.
The very first attempt the guy came painfully close, but missed. Remarkably, he was able to increase in altitude, find another air current to go the other way, and make another pass.
(where he missed again. I don't believe in fairy tale endings).
