Default Re: Yenko Leather Jacket

Wow, that brings back some good memories...A little back story on these jackets:

These were originally offered in an ad in the back of a magazine back in the late 80s/early 90's. The company selling them was called Legacy, and they were only offered in red white and blue at that time. I ordered one and had to wait almost a year until it was ever shipped. Years later when I became friends with Steve Sandlin I showed it to him and he said he personally knew the leather place that made them, as they had made some similar jackets for Sandlin Lumber Company. In 2003 he came up with the idea to have them reproduced and sell them as a fund raiser for the Yenko Sportscar Club. As you note in the old thread linked above, they were offered in various sizes to members here, and only offered to members in the original red, white, and blue color scheme. The price was $695 at that time, and the only variation from the original version sold through Legacy was that Steve had them put a label inside that said "Yenko Sportscar Club".

At the time when Steve had these made, I suggested having a few made in something a little more "low key" than the standard red white and blue. Steve liked the idea but figured most would want the traditional Yenko R/W/B colors... as far as I know there were only 2 made in that brown/tan color combination. One was mine, and the other was Steve Sandlin's. Unless this one is the one originally made for Steve, the manufacturer must have made a few extras in that color combo. The rest were all red white and blue. I have one in both color versions. The "sYc" on the shoulders and "4 2 7" on the sleeves of the ebay one look odd... definitely different than either of mine. In any case, I know the whole idea for the brown/tan colors was mine, so this definitely isn't from the original late 1980's run of jackets, and is slightly different from the one I have in this color combo. Maybe a later 3rd run was produced?

Even better question...who still has theirs?
