Those are really the only months when the weather is noticeably different here. Even then, it's still nice, just with less sunshine, maybe a little rain. July starts the temps rising (we've been in the low 80's a few days running right now), but generally its high-60's to high-70's for most of the year. Try to get news of Santa Ana wind activity though, which can make it extra dry and much warmer here. When those SA winds start coming from the desert and heading toward the coast, California starts to catch on fire lol.
Not sure what your plans are, but the summer months (June, July, August) are pretty "touristy" here, so the population will be elevated. I'm sure hotel/rental rates will be up, as well. Spring months bring the kids of course.
I've always liked the beach suburbs (Solana Beach, Cardiff, La Jolla, Del Mar, Carlsbad) which are all within 30mins of downtown SD. Being small towns on the water, parking can be tough to find though. There's good sea food, and you're close to a lot of events that may be going on.
If you don't mind driving north 45-50mins, Dana Point, Huntington Beach and Laguna Beach are nice places, but expect the beaches to be loaded on the weekends.

Sorry about the tardy response. I don't seem to get notifications from the site anymore.
