Default BELMONT What they ordered for 1969

The word was quietly circulated that there were special hi-performance Camaro and Chevelle models available. Belmont ordered 10 COPO Camaro models and 5 COPO Chevelle models. These cars had few options as it was felt that they would see some "track time" and should be as light as possible. Many did not have the console option. Deliveries started in the spring. The first car to arrive was a Hugger Orange Camaro with a manual transmission. It was driven some to break in the engine (maybe the Harveys on Jane Street?) and then it was run at the track to determine it's potential. There were two or three other customer cars ordered at Belmont including the Gold with a Green interior example. The motor in that car was replaced with a 454 early on. The 427 did tend to eat parts when it was raced... At first GM honoured the warranty on these cars but then tightened things up later.
