Dave
That is another set of Uniroyals I have , I sold a set to Scot Tedro last year and I believe those are the ones on his car..
No luck on the original block, next submissions will be about the driveline.
Paul

Great snow tire! I'd love a set!
Nice color on the 71w convertible.
Keep posting on the build thread....

This will be an amazing car Paul!

And yes, Paul was kind enough to provide the tires for the 1970 Black Canadian W30 Mascar Classics restored.

Here is the last installment on the doors for now. Final finishing will be done when doors are hung on car to get final alignment with quarters and fenders.

Numbers on masking tape ate measurements Mark took to ensure doors were the correct size with the original door skins.

I have had trouble posting photos so there have been no visual updates recent although there has been progress on the car... slow progress.
The big news today is I made contact with the original owner.
The background: About 5 years ago I ran an ad on Kijiji in Corner Brook Newfoundland seeking info about the car, I got only a few responses which led to the second owner, who could not be found.
About a week ago I posted another ad on Kijiji with photos of a restored 72 identical to mine. In particular I was looking for dealer memorabilia . I got many responses and made contact with a few "car guys" in Corner brook. Through conversations I got the name of the dealer GM in the early 70's then the sales manager for the Stepheville ,Nl branch, Bob Mercer. Bob said he was sure he remembered the car and the original lady owner. he was going to check with another work colleague who would also remember.
This morning I got an email from Bob with the name and phone number of the original lady owner. Lorreta Burrell was 30 when she placed the order for her fully loaded 71 Olds 442 W30 convertible through salesman Walt Everett. This had been the 3rd new convertible Loretta had ordered since 1968, She said, I always ordered my cars.
Her 68 was an Impala SS, her 69 was an Impala SS and she ordered a 1970 Olds 442 W30, that she recalled took a long time to get.Ordered in April 1970 it didnt show up until March 1971 as a 1971 due to the prolonged GM strike in the fall of 1970.
Loretta recalled things about the car that could only be known by the owner.
The original story I had was that the car was owned by a US serviceman or RCMP officer and I recall seeing it driven by a young women. Loretta's Husband Thomas was a US Airforce pilot , discharged in 1970 due to a back injury. He had been stationed at Harmon NAS in Stephenville during the late 60's where he met Loretta. Although a native of Cleveland Ohio, they opted to settle in Stephenville, which was Loretta's home town.
Loretta recalled having a lot of fun with the 442 but constantly had carburator trouble. She traded it in after two years, she could not recall what car she bought next but did buy a 1977 Z28, Black with red stripes and a t top, Today she drives a Buick Enclave with a sunroof.
Loretta says she has 40 photo albums and has some early day photos of the car as she was always asked to use her convertibles in Parades and weddings.
She was very excited to learn her car still existed and is looking forward to seeing completed photos.

I love that you have this number at the ready:-)

Ryan W.

PS: Will you get to NFL one day soon to meet Loretta?

PPS: When she shares the fossil photos I would suggest posting them directly from your PC, all these picture sites seem to be a waste of time to me, and if they change their settings later all the pictures on websites like this disappear:-(
