Default Trim Tags

Is this an example of a trim tag we should watch out for? I think so.

What raises suspicions, the rivets? If not, what?

It would be interesting to know what the VIN is. I notice it is not posted in the ad.

Probably original, seeing that the motor is long gone and the color isn't brown, but red. Just someone not being very bright about the rivets.......

Whoever reinstalled the cowl tag used ordinary pop rivets rather than the factory style recessed rivets used on GM cars of that era. The factory style rivets are actually still available, however, so their presence does not guarantee that a given tag was factory-installed.

How can we be sure this trim tag was the one that came off the car. Trim tags are generally not removed unless repair is necessary in that area or somethig fishy is going on. Its not like they are trying to hide it though. They did leave it unpainted.

If you have a car dipped, you need to remove the trim tag and VIN tag or the dipping process will destroy them. So, they need to be put back on, it just looks like someone didn't use the correct rivets. CRG has a big enough database to cross reference the VIN to the trim tag to tell if it is in the correct time frame.
