Default Date code on distributor

Does Date Code 8 M 28 decipher to 1968/ Dec./ 28th??
Am I correct in that GM has eliminated the I of the alphabet making M the 12th character?

Default Re: Date code on distributor

Yes
M stands for the Month December.
Delco-Remy is the Manufacturer who deleted the letter I from their Date codes used on most Electrical components.
It looks to closely like the number One.
