Default need opinions cowl plenum

what are your thoughts about putting a cowl plenum air cleaner on my 69 L78 Chevelle when I get it finished?

I really like the look just not sure about cutting the hole in the firewall. need opinions, do you think it will hurt the value of the car?

yes it WILL hurt the value of your car, ASSUMING your car is stock/original

IF your car is a "street mod" or the like (ie, NOT STOCK) it will not likely affect the value, HOWEVER some one may want to return your car to "stock" and would not appreciate carved up sheet metal

I was actually thinking the same thing last year Donnie. I feel they are definitely cool and would be a unique addition to my car. However, a few things made me forget about it:

1) - Finding a "correct" one for a 69 Velle as there were many of these available for different models.
2) - Cutting firewall.
3) - Costs involved to get one absolutely correct.
4) - I assume there would be some other minor issues regarding certain wire and hose routings as well.

Good luck with your decision.

a guy is repoping them now for 650.00 on team chevelle and ebay.someone did a little smoothing on the firewall of my 69 conv. so i found an original one and installed it.i did cut out the firewall and put it on like it should be installed.when the top is up you can hear it sucking air inside the car.i just happened to have another all original one for a 69 chevelle sitting on the shelf.still has original staples and rubber.my engine compartment gets alot of attention from that air cleaner.it's a part that you would never take off once installed.also you can cut out the bottom of the fiberglass duct and not touch your firewall. greg

Donnie,

I was thinking the same thing as Greg. No harm done that way and you can change it back to the open element when you want.

I don't think it will hurt the value. I would put it on. In fact, I put a cowl plenum crossram air cleaner on a 67 Z28 years ago and it probably helped it's value.

----I put a repop 67 Camaro cowl plenum air cleaner on my 65 Chevelle wagon, and I love it! Cool thing was that my wagon came with factory AC and I had removed it for aftermarket AC. That left the factory hole and it matched up with the cowl piece like it was made that way from the factory. With that said, my wagon is sort of a loosly wrapped pro-touring style and I wasnt bothered by cutting holes if I had to in the least.......Bill S

If cutting the firewall is a problem dont do it,just use some washers on the bottom screws on the duct to let air into the plenum.
