Fast Class Racing
Could someone descibe the different classes and rules in this type racing.
It seems to be mostly a big block dominated class Thanks Danny

Re: Fast Class Racing
It's sorta easy. Start with a 55-74 North American assembly line produced car or Ranchero, El Camino etc. Car must "appear" stock. Almost anything goes (except nitrous) if you can stuff it into a factory available block that looks like one that was available in the vehicle you are using, must use original casting # heads, intake manifold, and a correct or correct appearing carb. Oh yeah, gotta have a stock body, paint and interior and no lightweight or fiberglass panels that would not have been assembly line installed. Blow it out through ported or extrudhoned original exhaust manifolds and a 2 1/2" mandrel bent exhaust system. Largest tires allowed are one # larger than came on the car, or G70's if the car came with a smaller size.
That's most of it, but check here for more complete information.

Re: Fast Class Racing
You talking about racing on the skinny, Polyglass type tires? If so, then there are basically 2 classes:
1: Pure Stock - must retain stock engine specs, stock suspension, etc. 2: Stock Appearing - must use factory correct engine pieces but any internal mods are fair game, some limited other mods. |

Re: Fast Class Racing
The racing that Rob, Copo Pete, JJ,Casey Marks, Dave H and myself are running in is the Pure Stock (factory stock) racing. It ranges in times from JJ's L88 (I believe it was 11.74 at last September's race) to 16 second cars. Of the people mentioned above, I am one of the slow cars. My car (4200# race weight on radials and 3.23 gears) went 13.57 @ 102 last September. It has to be one of the funnest things to do while still having clothes on!

Re: Fast Class Racing
Not at all...as Rusty said, the cars will represent the entire spectrum, from the few of us hardcore tuners who are looking for every last .001 of a second, to those guys who just enjoy stretching their legs every once in a while. If you've never been to one, there is simply no good way to describe it...except it's a BLAST, and highly addictive.
I tell ya, you should try and make the Martin event in June, as it's just up the road into Michigan from you...not too far, and you'll be guaranteed a good time! |

Re: Fast Class Racing
Besides, there are several small block screamers out on the track. One of the great things are the shootouts! You are matched up with the closest qualifier by time. Most of these shootout partners are within .1 of a second. Best 2 of 3 headsup racing! I had better slow down, my heart is starting to flutter!
