BBC 8 in balancer question
Well, time for the crazy question of the day. I need an 8 in. Balancer for a 427 I am building. Being the cheap bas@&"d that I am, here is the idea I want to run by the engine builders.
Could I take a 8 inch 454 balancer I already have and chuck it in a lathe and cut the external counterweight out of the back side and re-balance? Good 8" balancers are a little more than I want to spend or the rubber on used ones looks questionable. Many I find have been beat on and the pulley surface is distorted. Repros? Not sure I trust non GM parts. Seems like in theory it would work? Thanks guys.

I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Not sure, but you might need to re-mark TDC, too.

Ha -- been there, done that ... chucked one up in a brake lathe and rebalanced with rotating assembly ... TAZ
