The prom Corvette
A little follow up on the ’66 Vette Drew took to the prom. Sort of a survivor, pretty much all original, numbers matching drive train, most of the original parts intact. Three owner car, with the first and third owners father and son. The original 427/390 engine was in desperate need of some attention, as had quite a bit of blow by. When our engine builder dissembled the engine, from heads on down, untouched gaskets, etc with all the original parts, complete with three broken piston skirts. Fortunately did not hurt the cylinder walls. While the engine was being freshened up, we power washed everything to try and remove 50+ years of grime, and touched up a few spots/scratches on the body.
After a thorough washing(s), pretty cool to find few of the paint markings for shims, big block driveshaft and axle shafts, big block coil spring tags, and even some of the masking tape still visible on body mounts. We have been trying to drive it as much as possible, to work out any bugs and to break in the new dual disc clutch. Pure Stock Drags are going to be close to us in a couple of weeks, told Rob we might have to try that. LOL
