Default Vin less Muncie transmission

Did cars come with VIN less transmission or that means over the counter

There were definitely cars that had no VIN stamped on trans.. engines also.

Very true. My wife's former 69 Impala had the VIN stamp on the trans, but none on the engine.

Anything is possible, but the un-stamped transmissions I have seen were usually rebuilt at sometime with NOS cases like the M-22 I had in a Chevelle. Bill

I have seen both engines and transmissions in original cars with no VIN stamp, but always a date / code stamp. Not common but unusual things did happen.

I've seen the VIN stamped on the top of the trans near the front ears. Have also seen stamped on both the top and the side near the date stamp on the same trans.

Correct LOS/VN often stamped the Trans on top & twice for good measure also.

My white vietnam z28 did not have a vin anywhere on the transmission. It was certainly the original never out of the car and matched the pop date wise. I do have another trans with the vin by the drain plug stamped 3 tines...ive also seen the vin on the midplate
