Shipping a car?!????

Forgive me if this is in the wrong forum...

I just bought a running driving project that need to go from Ga to Ma....open carrier. I'm learning that this uship and a relater 'brokers' is kinda a nightmare. The 'quote' me one price and then up it a couple hundred bucks as soon as I go to finalize the deal. Can anybody share with me the best way to get a junker shipped without breaking the bank? Thanks.

This guy is a Team Chevelle member, although his trailer is enclosed. There is a guy on the H.A.M.B. that hauled one from California to Michigan for me on an open trailer. I can look him up it you want.

I used a guy named Mike Falco at 1 Flat Rate. Phone number is 1-800-876-4888 extension 5.

I bought an L78 Nova from a member here in New Jersey and wanted it shipped all the way across country to me in Seattle. 1 Flat Rate quoted me around $1200 on an open trailer. This was April 2013, just about a year ago. They said the pick up window was around 2-3 weeks as they had to find enough cars in the area to fill a transporter coming this way from the New Jersey area. He called me back about 5 days later and said he had an enclosed trailer he could offer for slightly more at $1450. I agreed to it.

The Nova I bought was not a runner, so this price included winching it on the trailer as most guys charge extra for that. I was happy with the service from the transport company. They are not owned by 1 Flat Rate, they are just an approved transporter in their network as they simply broker these hauls. The company that hauled it took good care of it and then I picked it up in a secure holding lot about 20 miles from my home in Seattle. I would use them again.

+1 for Mike Flaco at Flat rate, had an early, non running, 911 shipped from Seattle to Long Island. Price was very, very reasonable and was delivered in an enclosed semi on time. Mike stayed in touch throughout the process, price didn't waiver and I paid the driver, who did a great job loading and unloading. The transporter had new Porsches and other high end cars on it when it arrived, so I guess that says something. I would use them again for sure. SULLY

I originally got the recommendation for 1 Flat Rate from JRSully here on this board, so there you have it, two very satisfied customers of Mike Falco.

I spoke with 1 flat rate today. Mike was not there but I spoke with the Scottish fella. They are brokers not carriers. Price always seems to go up and up and up....

NEVER put any money down with a broker. Just my 2 cents.

Hi Jim,

Yes, I realize that 1 Flat Rate is a broker. I said so in my post. My understanding is that the actual carrier they used is an approved carrier from their network, meaning they have history and experience with that carrier and I will say that the carrier was very professional and did a great job that I was happy with. They did raise their price from the original quote of $1200 to $1450, but the original quote was an open transporter and for $1450, I got an enclosed transporter. This was important to me as the trunk of my Nova was filled with high dollar parts (837 alternator, restored smog system, etc.).

I offered up 1 Flat Rate simply as a suggestion as I would be comfortable using them again. At the time I did this haul a year ago, fuel was maybe 15% higher than today's market and the only other comparison I had was calling Reliable Carriers who quoted me something like $2200 if I recall correctly.

Oh, I don't think I had to pay anything up front to the broker, 1 Flat Rate, but when I picked up the car, I brought two separate cashier's checks to pay them separately from the carrier. I think the split was $150/$1300.

Shipping brokers are a nightmare! Call Glen at show time haulers he is excellent ! He just delivered my camaro from Oregon to North Carolina for 1300 enclosed. I was well pleased. His # is 256-689-1644
