I've been noticing this for awhile now.
So many are going overboard with these marks & dabs on their hospital clean restorations.
It clashes as bad as Elvis at a bar mitzvah.

I'll add my pet peeve to the list. The "plastic caution " tag that comes on reproduction batteries. You see this one on mega dollar restorations and in photos of otherwise correctly restored magazine cars. One of the makers of restoration batteries said to me that he takes it as a kind of strange compliment to his work when he sees these at car shows. This tag is a safety warning that is required when shipping the battery from him to you in 2006, not in 1969.

Wait a minute. Can you hear the sound of people running to their garages right now?

Ive been known to mark up a car or two. But I can safely say that I've never made any up that werent found and documented during disassembly.

Unfortunately, Ive seen cars that Ive built, several years down the road, that have been marked up like is being discussed. It bugs me. Not only do I know I didnt put them there, I also know that they werent on the car originally.

And maybe someone should tell these guys that the assembly line workers didnt dab/mark anything (except in rare instances)

No problem if they were on the car originally. But many times, you can get a sense when there is a lot of made-up marks on a car.

If I were to restore a car that was marked up... I would with out a doubt have many good pictures and drawings with notes so I could duplicate the marks... thus I would have documentation backing up the restored cars marks.

As an example, and the same is done for every marking found (in addition to notes/diagrams):
