So what you are saying is that of the 53,599 1970 SS 396 Chevelles and El Caminos - 10 of them came from the factory with redlines.
I don't think the word "rare" comes to my mind. |

Seller ended the auction early. Did anyone here buy it?

I've seen a few SS ElCaminos with white stripe tires but I don't recall ever seeing a Coupe or Convert with them. Pretty Cool Ride !

----My 70 SS El Camino bought at Slaton Chevrolet in 1970 brand new had white stripe tires. Cant remember the brand as they didn't stay on there long enough to register in my 23 year old pea-brain,,,LOL!.......Bill S

Didn't Steve McQueen's '70 El Camino have its original red line tires still in place when it was auctioned a few years back? Or was it restored? Pics had it with red lines

I guess that's believable, albeit rather unscrupulous on the part of the dealer. Since it only cost roughly 50 bucks to upgrade to either white lettered or white stripe F70-14 tires from 78 series blackwalls on non-SS 8 cylinder Chevelles, a $100 charge to change only from F70 white lettered to F70 white stripe sounds anything but credible.
