Default So.... how fast have you driven on the street?

I admit to a few excesses in my younger days.... way out away from traffic, flat road etc. All the stuff to make is "safe" (obviously a relative term).

Anyway, this guy may have pushed the envelope, and he may have been in the City limits; that turnpike runs right through OKC.

I really hate say but I guess near 125+ in my 1974 455 Trans Am in the early 80s and around 130+ in my wife's Turbo 1988 300ZX. Stupid things we did as youngsters.

Does the Autobahn count as a street?

I know my wife's Infiniti Q45 will shift into 4th gear at 140mph. Stayed in it for a bit more but backed out when it was just about the width of the needle before 150!

That was 15-20 years ago and around the Philadelphia area. I'll never forget seeing the guy in the new Trans-Am next to me mouth the words "What is that thing?" around 125 as I walked past him!

About 125 in a late-night street race on a four-lane boulevard. Won and then got pulled over. I was polite and respectful so no arrest and a ticket for only 65 in a 35. 1981. Otherwise 130 on a Bay Area bridge late at night giving a girl a fast ride she begged for. 1984. (Looked down to see zero oil psi so into neutral and key off. Oil pump base screws had come loose and pressure was going out through the gap between the pickup base and pump body.)

Oh, and 165 on a '93 Honda CBR900RR that I had to have. Smooth as silk at that speed.

Oh, and 145 (limiter) in my '04 WRX STi that I had to have. Also smooth as silk at that speed.

Guessing if we had a way to post anonymously, we would get more responses.

Bill: "165 on a '93 Honda CBR900RR that I had to have. Smooth as silk at that speed."

Wow, I am really scared of speed on two wheels. 1983, I had a GS 1100E. I know it is nothing compared to today's hyper bikes, but was a big deal at the time. Capable of 0-100-0 all in ten seconds.

I found out the hard way, it was not "smooth as silk" at 130. Handlebars started shaking violently (6 inches each direction) and didn't quit shaking until I got her down to about 80.

Sold the bike back to the guy I had purchased it from the next day. He still has it. I have even ridden it a few times, but never at high speed.

Quit riding bikes all together about 6 years ago after my brother was almost killed on one. Too many INATTENTIVE drivers out there texting, talking of just asleep at the wheel.

Yeah, at 165 on the 900RR, chin on the tank, it was going just fine until I imagined a deer pouncing out of the trees (Black Hills of SoDak) and I braked it down to 65. It was a wide section of two-lane, newly paved, with trees about 100 feet away from the road on both sides. Young and dumb. I too quit riding because I moved to suburbia and the close calls were just too many.

135 in a '72 Z/28, in 1979, street racing my best friend, in a 35 MPH zone.
The officer knew where he lived and pulled in the driveway a few minutes after us, while were still standing there laughing.
He lost his license for two months and I got a $150 fine and lost 6 demerit points. Then I had to have a meeting with the Ministry of Transportation, as I had now lost 13 of a possible 15 points.
They let me keep my license as the guy figured I would not make it the two years required to get my points back.

125 in a '69 Z/28, in 2000, going up a bridge, spanning a shipping canal. The car would have gone faster, but the front end was getting loose on the road, so I backed off.

I would not never entertain that today, as it is considered stunt driving today and your car is immediately impounded. Then you have to deal with the fine and the increased insurance costs, if anyone will even insure you.

That is how I ended up at the dragstrip. I needed a safe place to play.

155 across the desert near Alamogordo, NM and once up the 5 through LaJolla going against a 1st gen in my 93 Z28. After I left him I just couldn't take my foot off the pedal lol. Actually had the cruise control set at 130mph for a short while going across the desert after we left 29 Palms once just because. My Hayabusa I used to have was governed at 180mph... Just stupid fast is an understatement. And guys put turbos and nitrous on them!

Not to get into kill stories, but here's one of my favorites that shows just what the 'Busas can do against an R1. Not me and on a closed course of course...

Interesting question coming from a lawyer. I plead the 5th.
