L78 rebuild
Hello all:
Thanks everyone for your comments on my L78 rebuild. I will rebuild the engine to all factory specs including the 11:1 compressiom, cam etc. The engine is completely stock as it came from the factory with all factory components. Anxious to get it back on the road. Absolutely no decking of the engine block. Joe |

I think its cool and ok rebuilding to factory specs. However you mentioned selling the car while making sure to maintain the value. Wondering if it would be even better to rebuild the motor to sound just like an L78 and perform better but have modern internals so the next guy doesn't have to add octane booster, adjust valves etc.... Interesting topic. A lot of guys out there that I see in these cars want to dust them off and drive to shows etc... without really doing much else. Value would not be effected IMO if the engine had a modern roller cam with bullet proof internals and even more HP than a stock L78. That would actually attract me to the car more personally because I like to drive my cars. Anyway you go it should be fine. Great discussion, just my .2 cents.

Just my opinion, but if I was looking at an original L78 car to buy I would want it to be an original L78, not with modern parts in it or lower compression.

X3 If guys "...dusts them off and drives it to shows...", They could go 30 years without adjusting the valves, IMO. There is a myth that solids are high maintenance. BITD, as a teen, at my job, I would pump Sunoco 260 & check under the hood. Most all the hot cars came in there for gas. I can't tell you how many I saw that had 60K , or so, on the odometer and it was evident their valve covers had never been off.
