Default L78/L71/L72/LS6 143 "blueprint" camshaft interest?

Any of you L78/L71/L72/LS6, big block Chevy guys have any interest in a '143' blueprint camshaft? Immediate or otherwise??

Due to Crane's recent bankruptcy, we're looking into the feasibility of a high quality '143' camshaft to fill the void...whether it be for restoration or high performance [Pure Stock, street/strip, etc], this cam should fit the bill. Do a quick search on this site about the performance of the GM/Crane 143 camshaft, and you'll see why it's absence leaves a lot of us scrambling for a replacement...all so called 143 "blueprint" camshafts are not created equal!

I know a couple of guys are in the middle of engine builds as I type this, so if anyone else is gonna be needing one shortly, *please* send me a private message ASAP. But, if there is any other future interest, please reply...

All right Darren, what's in the hopper this time?

Jim

Just to add to what Rob was discussing above about camshafts. We have Cam Doctored what has been "143" GM reproduction camshafts and they are different. We are talking about a lack of design and quality control in a nutshell.

Crane will not come back as they are in liquidation at this time. The thought of not being able to get the $130.00 to the door special that they once offered no longer is available. When you find something good we like to try keep it. That is why this thread was started.

I'm pretty sure I'll need one for my '69 L72 as I'll be doing a rebuild at some point.

rob, are you saying that another manufacturer may take up grinding a 143 dupilicate cam.the 396 /375 hp motor bottom ends is complete for the 68 nova ss ;waiting on the engine builder to finish the 842 aluminum heads/then we are off to the dyno.anyways you can count me in also.chris

Yessir, that's what I'm saying...at least if there's enough interest and we press the issue, anyway! We thought there would be some interest, but just wanted to do a quick "heat check" to make sure we didn't go through all the trouble just for the heck of it.

We can't divulge a lot of details until we officially get the ball rolling, but our objective is to have a no-fuss 143 replacement that you can put in, know it is what it is, and quit worrying about it.

Chuck, thanks for passing the word...

Rob:

I'm in the middle of machining my L72 and just spent half the afternoon talking to my buddy about what camshaft we should use now that Crane is gone. I need one but I was hoping to find one on the shelf somewhere. Please let me know. The engine will be going back together in May. Ed
