I was on the Jalopyjournal.com site ( The HAMB ) and saw a 57 Belair custom truck. Like an El Camino. It had a BB and it had the word yenko highlighted in red on the front of the block. FYI for you investigators

I tried finding it yesterday but gave up..
Sounds like it's one of the Yenko cast alum. blocks like Barnhardts car has and not the one w/ the Yenko crest/logo..
Is it correct that the Y-E-N-K-O lettered one is the earlier one and the logo style the later...always trying to clarify this and if it's been noted here previously, I either missed it or it didn't stick?.

My block has the YENKO letters cast into it above the water pump on the drivers side. The COMPLETE engine was bought new from Yenko in 1982 as I have full documentation (receipts) of all the parts purchased with J&D Machine shop performing the machine work and assembly of the engine (also one of the line items on the receipts). J&D Machine is stamped on the block and both 074 heads. One thing I found very interesting about the engine is the std 4.440 bore and the 4.00" stroke (LS-7 crank) that makes 496 CID. All the others I have seen are 427 CID engines. We freshened the engine a couple of years ago and verified all the parts in the engine were of the original build. I must admit we upgraded the cam to a hydraulic roller as the original cam had some worn lobes. We made a few easy dyno pulls to break it in. The engine made 538 HP and 600 TQ, while limiting the pulls to 5500 RPM. This thing will rev and pull hard to 7000, so I feel there is actually more HP than 538. The engine now resides in a really nice, very correct, Lemans blue, 69 Yenko tribute Camaro. The installation looks exactly like a factory installed ZL-1 under the hood. I could not picture the engine in anything else (except maybe a black 69 Camaro Yenko tribute). Perhaps I can post some pictures later. I will most likely put the car on the market in a few weeks or so if anyone is interested, let me know.

Can I assume the LS-7 crank necessitated external balance components?

Yes, the flywheel and harmonic balancer. The crankshaft is listed on the Yenko sales receipt with a GM part number and LS-7 in parenthasis. The harmonic balancer is also listed on the sales receipt.
