That Roberto Schnider/Jim Lynch car... Seeing it in person is on my bucket list. If I get to hear it I may just shut up and give up and lay down and die.

The earliest Motion hoods I have seen from actual cars (from old photos)was made via "Chopper gun" i.e.e sprayed fiberglass and the underside of the hood was very rough like the backside of a new fiberglass bath tub.
The red hood (Cook dw) in the above photos is a prime example of a very early hood made via chopper gun Later most companies started to mold the underside smooth as most are today. Last edited by whitetop; 04-06-2017 at 07:52 PM. |

Good to know!!!! Pretty safe to say my hood wasnt an original Motion hood but wish I could pin point roughly the time frame. At least now I know it is an early version. Thank you!

Nearly all early fiberglass, hoods, scoops and bodies from every company until mid 70's was chopper gun. Mid 70's on up companies started going to hand laid fiberglass. Hand laid was stronger and thinner |

looking at your photos
where you say " molded holes for the pins and has the steel inserts molded in the glass" I don't think that can be used to ID a hood as the hood pins would be added during installation the flat round metal plates for the hood pins are very thin are yours sunk into the fiberglass or did they just paint around them? normally the round metal plates for the hood pins sit on top of the paint |

The plates were on top of the paint. I assume you are referring to the plates with 4 screws holding them onto the hood. The plate are in fact very thin. They must have been precise with the drilled as there is no "blow out" from drilling the holes.. Maybe I'm not picking up what you are laying down.. As they say.

What makes you say that those holes are molded? They look drilled to me.

Ill double check tonight but I didnt/dont recall any "blowout" from drilling. Maybe it would have been minor and I just didnt catch it..

I have an original hood, but it is the stinger style. I could check to see exactly were the holes are and how it was constructed if it would help any.
