Original, unrestored 1970 LS-5
This is a 1970 LS-5 454, Turbo 400, 3:31 posi, 48,000 original mile Chevelle and is completely unrestored. It still sports ALL its original drive train, paint, stripes, glass, bumpers and trim, weather stripping, trunk and interior with only the headliner being replaced. The car had not been titled since 1977 and still had 4 original build sheets hidden in the car and the POP was found in the glove box during cleaning. This car was originally ordered from Harold Chevrolet in Bloomington, IL as a courtesy car on January 20, 1970. The original owner worked for GM for 35 years and is still alive today.
When the car was found and purchased two years ago it was completely cleaned and detailed but NO paint or restoration of any kind was applied anywhere. All fluids were changed and parts needing to be replaced were such as the radiator, fuel tank, water pump, fuel pump, exhaust and the fuel lines were flushed. The front shocks are the original but the rears were replaced sometime prior to the car being found. The engine was torn completely down, checked and reassembled with new gaskets. No modifications or parts were replaced except the fuel pump and the engine was only cleaned with the exception of the carburetor which was rebuilt. It still retains most all its original as built with parts including the assembly line captured nut motor mounts which are very rare today. The rearend fluid was changed and the rear checked. The transmission operates and the car is drivable but due to the seals being dried it is slow going into gear. A very simple rebuild would take care of that issue. It still retains its original radiator hoses and heater hoses. The interior is COMPLETELY original including seat covers, floor mats, door panels, carpet, package tray, dash, kick panels and dash pad with the exception of the headliner and carpet sound deadener which were replaced when the car was cleaned. The interior was completely removed from the car and cleaned as was the carpet which is the as built with item and is still with the car. The floor pans were absolutely mint and pristine as are the rest of the steel inner structures of the car. The dash is in very good condition and sports a tach and gauges as well as an AM 8-track which still works. A hole was cut in the dash for an oil sending unit at one time. All gauges and lights including the clock work. Also has a tilt wheel. The body is in excellent condition save for a few dings, scratches and two small creases. All of which could be repaired by a qualified PDR man. The trunk was only cleaned and is the original sprayed spatter paint with the original speaker covers, inspection marks, bolt caulking and decals still in their original place. The original wheels and center caps are on the car with a very early set of original replacement tires. To the best of my knowledge, the fuel tank, flapper check valve, battery, rear shocks, air filter, starter, spark plugs, radiator, exhaust system, tires, by-pass hose, fuel pump, V-belts, outside review mirror and headliner are the only non-factory assembled items on the car. There is NO rust damage ANYWHERE on this car. The car is a rolling encyclopedia of information with all of its original chalk marks, grease pencil, paint dabs and decals still visible on the car. The engine compartment is mostly original and perfect with the exception of radiator, water pump, cowl hood check valve and hose, battery, air filter, original dip stick and other minor items. The inner wheel wells have a slight corner cut out of them that we felt were for the header tube that was once on the car. Options are tilt wheel, tach and gauges, door edge guards, deluxe belts, floor mats, AM 8-track, and power steering. Asking price is $45,000. Please contact me via phone, PM or e-mail if interested. My number is 612-578-4007 and e-mail is [email protected]. Nice survivor class car. Hopefully the next owner doesn't decide to restore this.
