Default 1967 Comet Vintage Super Stock Race car with 427

1967 Comet Wagon Vintage Super Stock Race car with 427

Formerly from the Richard Ellis collection. (Restored with NOS 427 side-oiler)

This was a purpose built Privateer/Dealer Race car. Only 60 427 Comet Factory Coupes were built and no Wagons

Deluxe Marti Report which states shipment to Sandy Elliot, Ltd, Chatham, Ontario, Canada

Heater Delete

Radio Delete

Original protest letter written to NASCAR dated July 6, 1967

NASCAR response letter, confirming car legal for AA/S Class

Period photos of car drag racing

Lincoln-Mercury produced 60 427-powered Comets in 1967, the most famous of which was “The Collector,” a 202 Comet sedan fielded by Canada’s largest Lincoln-Mercury dealer, Sandy Elliot Ltd. located in Chatham, Ontario .

Looking for an edge in NHRA’s Super Stock Eliminator, Elliot and his dealer performance advisor Barrie Poole transplanted a complete Comet 202 427 4-speed drivetrain into this small block 1967 Comet station wagon, creating “The Collector II.” The car performed impressively, posting the quickest SS/C time at the 1967 NHRA Spring Nationals at Bristol, TN and taking a close second to Bill Jenkins in the final.

The “Collector II” appears on page 138 of the book Total Performers: Ford Drag Racing in the 1960’s by noted author Charles R. Morris. It is accompanied by extensive documentation, including a Deluxe Marti Report showing shipment to Sandy Elliot, Ltd, in Chatham, Ontario, Canada, correspondence to and from NASCAR confirming its legality for AA/Stock competition, and period photos of the car in action.

A real Nostalgic Super Stocker at the price it would cost to build a tribute car.

$45,000.00

Umm, this is intergang. Being from SW Ontario and a car guy who’s only 51 at this time, I remember some of these old cars kicking around. So a Ford in my area would have come to the attention of Don Henderson.
As I recall, another place that went by the name Rutledge garage or salvage, that I don’t recall, we just called it “Rutledge” had this old race wagon that was rumored to be a 427. I believe Don Henderson ran a factory Ford SS 427 car around this era of this wagon too. Don knew about the car and years later I heard he acquired this wagon from Rutledge.
I believe this is the same car! I spoke with Don Jr after Sr. had past. He offered it to me with a 427 side oiler and correct 4 speed top loader as well.
FYI Don Sr. was also the guy who found and restored the GT350 COUPE. I remember him talking about the first time it went to a Shelby show and everyone was upset that he brought this abortion to the high class Shelby show!!! That is until Carol himself came by and authenticated the car as a legit, one of 6 GT350 COUPE’s that he made. The man had some very wild Fords. RIP Sr. and Jr.

Nice pics! What would Grumpy's class and set up have been, i.e. engine/tranny? Weight comparison between the two?

Any trades? The 427 engine has to be worth a big chunk of the asking price.

Srefano, this line is incorrect:

"the most famous of which was “The Collector,” a 202 Comet sedan fielded by Canada’s largest Lincoln-Mercury dealer, Barrie, Ontario’s Sandy Elliot."

Sandy Elliot's business was in Chatham, Ontario. NOT Barrie, Ontario! It's about a 4+ hour drive from Chatham to Barrie.

BUT

Barrie is Barrie Poole the driver and service guy. He's still around and still doing some work. There is an old streetracer that bought a NEW in 1973 Mustang. Barrie has done the work to it for years. It's called "The Christmas Tree". Original owner sold it to and guy by the name of Glen who still has it and takes it out once in awhile.

FYI
