Default Odd air cleaner base

Saw an open element air cleaner at a swap meet a month or so ago that had the vent tube in the base on the drivers side of the carb instead of the passengers side. Here's a similar one that turned up just last night. Anyone have an idea what would have used that set-up?

Not to steal your thread, but i also have a air cleaner base and lid. The base has no provision for the tube to valve cover and the lid is black and the underside has the silk screen still on it.....another odd one ????????????

Driver's side vent tube I've seen on early vette (66-67) 327/350 with vented crankcase (vent is behind distributor) and uses special crankcase vent tube and rubber hose section to connect.

No provision for vent tube I believe is 67 L-88 and also 65 396/425 vette. Original black top with silkscreen is very hard to find.

Using that information I did some searching. It appears that 66-67 Corvette used the crank case vent tube on the L79 that comes off the block where the road draft tube had been in previous years, so I'm gonna take that the air cleaner fits does fit those Corvettes. Next time I see one of those bases in person I'll grab it up, at least if the seller isn't too proud of it.

Knowledge is king, and I'm glad I know where to ask. Thanks much.
