243,085 '69 Camaros were produced of which 242,750 came with headrests.

For 1969, headrests became a NHTSA requirement. Although the regulation didn't actually take effect until January 1, 1969, Chevrolet built all 1969 Camaros with headrests unless a special RPO was used to delete the headrests. From introduction in August, 1968 through December 31, 1968, RPO A82 was a factory default option that added an additional $16.90 to the window sticker. After January 1, 1969, the base price of the Camaro was adjusted to include the option.
For cars assembled before January 1, 1969, customers could order the &quot;Headrest Delete&quot; option (RPO AR1). The front seats would be assembled with the headrest mounting hardware on the seatframe, but the headrest itself was not installed. In its place, a cover was installed over the escutcheon to plug the hole. Only 335 customers opted for RPO AR1, making it extremely rare 1. An example is shown on the window sticker below.</div></div>

You obviously didn't read the first page of the thread where it says &quot;sold&quot;....over 6 months ago. Having items for sale in your 'signature' is also a no-no, especially when you're a non-paying member here.

In 35+ years of looking,buying,selling 1969 Gm cars I personally have never seen an original car without headrest unless it was a butchered piece of crap. Just my observations.

A number of years ago there was a 69 Chevelle SS396 for sale by the original owner down in the Carolinas. He still had the original window sticker and it showed the headrest delete on the sticker.

Of course that is my 69 L-78 has been spoken about a couple times here on the board. Head rest delete bench seat 4-aspeed. Original owner wanted it that way so he could put his arm around his girl...

Donny take notice, can't say you never saw one again!

Weird but true stuff. My '69 W-31 was ordered to race and then sell (4th out of 4 race cars) and was a relatively early build----10b. The original paperwork lists the &quot;A82 Head Restraints&quot; as an option. At that point, the base price had not reflected the Federally Mandated change.

Come to think about it. Growing up as teenager in the mid sixties, many bench seat cars didn't have headrests. As for &quot;Original owner wanted it that way so he could put his arm around his girl&quot;... Sounds right to me. Then buckets came along which put distance between you and your date or spouse. Today, we are further distanced from our mates as a result of the cell phone. Just look at couples in restaurants or even at home. Killer Chevelle. I thought for a moment that I was going to have to press my &quot;help I've fallen button&quot;
Happy New Year
