Hey User man, you got that down Pat. Very good explanation. My early 1969 nova and Z/28 have the flat type tip.

1969 thru 1971 Z28 dip stick

GM used two different style dip sticks during assembly line production, but only one is listed in the 69 70 71 Camaro Assembly Manuals

The standard production dip stick is the most popular one with the green tip handle, however GM used an optional flat tip handle which is
not listed in the assembly manuals and was never offered as a service replacement assembly like the green tip handle was

1969-71 Production dip sticks were not stamped with GM part number and did not use "SE ENGINE OIL" markings

As with many GM parts there were physical changes thru production and in service replacement dip sticks as follows:

1) 1969-1971 green tip handles were stamped with……. “ADD 8 8 FULL USE GM 6041-M QUALITY MS OIL M”
2) 1969-1971 flat tip handles were stamped with.……… “ADD | | FULL USE GM 6041-M QUALITY MS OIL E”

1969-71 handles do not have the dimple stamped in the handle

3) 1972-up green tip handles were stamped with……….. “ADD 1 QT 8 8 FULL USE SE ENGINE OIL M”
4) 1989-current green tip handles were stamped with……“ADD 1 QT 8 8 FULL USE SE ENGINE OIL 3951576 M

1972 and later handles have the dimple stamped in the handle
