A Super Duty Tempest, the winner of the first ever NASCAR Challenge Cup in February 1963, a 250-mile race at the Daytona, against Porsche, Ferrari GTO, Jaguar and Z06 Corvettes. Who would have thunk it!

Many believe the Powerglide had two speeds -- fast and faster. So if you hook two PGs together it was fast, faster, really fast and mach ... just sayin' ... TAZ

Such a cool corner of Pontiac history also love how Benz purchases it in the end for their own reverse engineering.
The article notes Powerglides back to back so if both not conventional forward facing, would they be tail to tail w/ rearmost unit working backwards and its old first as final drive achieving OD gearing?
Thanks for posting this stuff Steve!

Aluminum front end drag car that developed a tendency to turn left. It’s a great story but something that gets left out is the fact that this race was ran in the rain that pooled up in the floorboards of the Corvettes and profusely fogged up their windows! BTW, some of the ‘63 Corvette ZO6’s had their Fuelie motors replaced with 427 Mystery Motors which makes them the first competitive BBC Corvettes!
