Default Carpet Question ...

This is the carpet that is under the seat of my 1969 Nova SS
I can not understand why it has a cut out there.
I have been told it is the original carpet.
Can anyone shed some light on this?

Looks like a past owner cut it out to store something under the seat?

Post cut out...

I have owned a number of bucket seat Novas...both 69 and 70...never saw that feature before.

Can't speak for Novas but all Chevelles had similar cut outs under the seats that varied slightly depending on if it was a bucket seat or bench. The jute in your picture does look original however. You might want to try looking underneath the carpet for the manufacturer's tag.
