Talking Cool 67 Camaro Race Car For Sale

I saw this one online and thought someone here might be interested:

The owner of 1967 Camaro s/n 12437 has just authorized a price reduction.

S/n 12437 is a money-is-no-object 1967 Camaro that was prepared for the Pike’s Peak Hill climb by Absolute Engineering, Goleta, CA at a hard-parts cost of well over $100,000.

Power comes from an aluminum 6.6 liter (400 C.I.D.) Donovan 350/400 small block # 44314 P fitted with a forged steel 3.75 crank and Oliver forged steel connecting rods; 4.125 Mahle pistons and an Edelbrock Total Power Package featuring aluminum Edelbrock Victor Jr. 64cc cylinder heads; an SBC 23-Degree Victor Jr. 64cc roller tappet cam and a matched Edelbrock RPM intake manifold topped-of with a Holley XP 700 CFM Double Pump carburetor. Spark come from a MSD Pro-billet distributor with an MSD spark box with a built in changeable rev-limiter feeding to an MSD HBC Blaster coil and MSD Ignition wires while an ATi Super Damper makes checking the timing easy. A massive baffled aluminum oil pan provides the lubrication. Fabricated aluminum valve covers with an overflow oil catch can and a breather air filter top off the upper end. Total power is over 500 hp.

Engine power is fed into a Tilton aluminum flywheel and multi-disc ceramic clutch to an Autogear/Muncie M23 close-ratio transmission with a heavy-duty Autogear case with interchange gear ratios and a Hurst shifter. That power is sent down the drive train through an Aluminum DriveShaftPro driveshaft to a fully rebuilt 3:55 rear end by Coastal Differential, Ventura, CA.

Starting power comes from a lightweight racing battery and PowerMaster starter motor. Engine cooling is by a NASCAR style aluminum radiator with its matching aluminum overflow surge tank and a high volume water pump. Oil cooling is done with a large SUSA oil cooler with an impressively machined remote oil filter. Doug’s headers with an all-new Borla muffler and pipe system handle the exhaust. A lightweight PowerMaster alternator keeps everything charged and an ancillary SPAL radiator fan keeps it all cool. Power and braking are put to the ground through a fully rebuilt suspension with all new Teflon suspension bushings and four wheel disc brakes fitted with Wildwood brake calipers and all new brake mounting and suspension hardware. A set of Koni shocks fitted with all new hardware help keep it firmly planted. A full new set of 15″ X 8″ Torq-Thrust wheels with Hoosier 245/50ZR-15 race tires put the rubber to the ground.

The interior is fitted with a full roll cage, dual lightweight Momo race seats, a five-point Schroth safety harness and a Longacre steering wheel. A full set of new AutoMeter oil pressure, oil temperature, tach, water temp, voltage, MPH and fuel level gauges with an oil pressure and water temperature warning light keep everything in check. A nicely mounted ESS firebottle with cockpit and trunk retardant nozzles help keep it safe while all the right switchgear is properly marked and is mounted easy to access. A very nicely made fuse and relay board keep the electrons going to the right places and the cockpit wiring harness is nicely sleeved and finished. A 22-gallon ATL fuel cell with a new Edelbrock 160 GPH pump and all new Aeroquip lines provide the fuel. An X2 Racekey transponder is also fitted.

The entire outer, inner and lower body were stripped out and treated to excellent and all-new race-quality paint in an attractive medium blue with dual medium-green race stripes. The body and panel fit is excellent. The interior compartment, the under hood compartment, the floor, chassis and trunk have all been finished in light grey while both doors were substantially lightened and fitted with cleverly made outside door latches.

The lower front is fitted with a splitter to keep air from under the car at speed. All new headlight and tail lights assemblies were installed as needed for road racing. New and nicely fitted plexiglass front and rear windscreens are installed with clever rubber shock mounting. A lightweight lift-off and pinned fiberglass hood, trunk and trunk rear spoiler have been fitted. All the necessary tow hooks are nicely machined and fitted. Total weight is only 2,400 lbs. We have detailed photos showing the complete build process, e-mail us if you would like copies by e-mail.

1967 Camaro s/n 12437 was an undamaged barn-find which was fully rebuilt for Pike’s Peak and is now offered at far less than the component and build cost. Every component on s/n 12437 is new and never raced and only need final sorting and testing, as does any racecar going to a new owner. Thanks to its 500 plus hp 6.6 liter (400 C.I.D.) Donovan aluminum small block and its stripped out body at 2,400 lbs s/n 12437 is outrageously powerful and with minor tweaks can run in HSR, VARA, NASA, Targa Newfoundland or any other such similar event or series. Because s/n 12437 is a 1967 year model it is smog exempt, licensed and registered for road use with a Michigan title. 1967 Camaro s/n 12437 could be the ultimate track day racer or simply look great in any collection! Priced well below the cost of building, testing and development into race-ready condition. Now priced at $49,500 USD or best offer.

If money was no object on the build so was taste when it came to choosing the color for the stripes. Looks like a fun ride though.
