Default Oldsmobile Experimental Engine Development

I thought I’d share a few links to some articles on Oldsmobile experimental engine development. One of the members on the Oldsmobile site put these articles up & did a great job with the presentation so they are easy to read. In speaking with several of the Oldsmobile engineers including Dale Smith and various auto writers-they all state Olds was in the process of developing an extensive world-class racing program in the mid-sixties. But the program was killed because of the growing governmental regulation and emission restrictions by 1971. These engines along with all the other incredible hardware in development from the other GM divisions suffered elimination because of governmental regulation. Otherwise we probably would have seen performance engines and cars that were truly unimaginable-if the Muscle cars wars were allowed to continue unfettered.

I have tons of Oldsmobile information in my archives that I received from Helen Earley with the Oldsmobile History Center including many very obscure articles and rare factory photos of these and other experimental engines. But I will have to try and locate the material and figure out the process for posting pictures on this site.

John Beltz speaks of the growing intrusive U.S. governmental pressures and the threat it posed to the auto industry. Now we see the U.S. government in every aspect of people’s lives including overseeing the destruction of the whole U.S. economy currently.
