2001 Camaro Exhaust -- (Paging you GMMG guys!)
Hey guys,
I need to put new exhaust on my 2001 Camaro SS that runs consistent 11.70s @ 119mph. The current set up is Pace Setter Headers into an SLP Loud Mouth exhaust. No mufflers, just resonators. It is too loud for the street, which is where I want to bring the back to. Here are my options; there is basically no difference in cost. 1) A true dual exhaust X-pipe with mufflers. 3 inch exhaust, custom rolled, mandrel bent etc. 2) The GMMG Chambered Exhaust unit. Here is the link. http://www.gmmginc.net/Exhaust/index.php I do not have a good background in late model exhaust so any help would be great! I know a good X-pipe with a good muffler is a close second to running open headers, which is where I am leaning. Thanks! -Dan

Re: 2001 Camaro Exhaust -- (Paging you GMMG guys!)
GMMG will be extremely loud and raspy with headers and no cats. If you're talking about a true dual exhaust that goes over the axle, that won't be easy to do with a 3" setup. A dual 3" exhaust with bullet mufflers and turndowns is still too loud for the street as well. I would suggest a Mufflex 3.5" cat-back if you don't want to lose any power.

An x-pipe will quiet anything down quite a bit, and help with resonance as well...that was on my list to do with my '98 SS, but I sold it before I got a chance...

Thanks for the input Gents!
I am torn... the GMMG system is most certainly top of the line with a huge following. It brings together modern and vintage tastes. The X pipe and muffler has its pros too. I guess I'll sleep on this one -Dan |
