1969 Camaro Z/28 Daytona Yellow
Purchased by the 2nd owner on February 25, 1974 from Adams Chevrolet in Norman, Oklahoma, this mostly original Z/28 has remained in central Oklahoma to this day. In September of 2011, the 2nd owner made the decision to let the car go. As we intently listened to his wife tell us about the day he picked her and their new-born baby daughter up from the hospital in this Z back in the mid 70's as their two older children rode in the back seat, we could see the decision to let this "member of the family" go was a difficult one for them to make. The sale of this 1969 Camaro marked the end of an era for one family... and the beginning of another for the next owner....
The original trim tag on this Camaro confirms the desirable original color/equipment combination of (Code 76) Daytona Yellow paint with black racing stripe treatment, (Code 711) black standard interior, and (X33) the highly desirable Z/28 package along with power steering, front disc brakes, 8000 rpm tach, and center console with gauges. Assembled March, 1969, at the Norwood assembly plant, this X33 Z/28 retains its original drivetrain including the factory original and numbers matching DZ302 engine, factory original and numbers matching Muncie M20 4-Speed Transmission, and factory original 3.73 12-Bolt Rear End. The Holley 4053 carb, which has recently been rebuilt, is original to the car as is the Winters intake, heads, carburetor, alternator and distributor. The car has style trim which includes Roof Drip Moldings, Simulated Rear Fender Louvers, Wheelhouse Moldings, Black Body Sill, Rear Panel Emblem, and Bright Headlight and Taillight accents. As was common back in the early 70's, the 2nd owner installed headers and chromed the hood hinges and a few other components under the hood. He also installed the popular cowl hood and rear spoiler. He kept the original parts including the exhaust manifolds, air cleaner, and even the original flat hood that still retains the factory paint and stripes. These parts all go with the car. The car was treated to a lacquer repaint in the mid-80's. While the paint is still in excellent condition, it is beginning to show the distinct signs of age that lacquer paint is known for. If you look closely you can see minor signs of lacquer chequing. When the car was painted, any exterior trim or molding that was in need of attention was replaced with new... and at that time GM brightwork could still be ordered directly from the dealer. Dealer invoices are included that show the purchase of this now hard-to-find brightwork. This Z/28 has not been restored, it has only been treated to the fore mentioned repaint in the 80's. The interior is mostly original with the exception of the front seat covers, dash pad, door panels and carpet which have been replaced. The interior is in excellent condition with the exception of the steering wheel, which has some cracks. The car has been garage kept and babied its entire life and it shows. It has absolutely NO rust. The dash, radio, seats, head-rests, seat belts, carpet, console, gauges, glove box, wipers, lights, horn, vent controls, headliner, door panels, door handles, window winders, glass, weather stripping, jack and hold down are all in excellent condition. The car comes with new original style tires, E70 x 15 Goodyear Polyglas Speedway Z28 with raised white letters. It also has new original style spiral shocks. It has new wheel cylinders and calipers, brakes, ball joints, A-frame bushings, sway bar bushings, front springs, front brake lines and dated coded spark plug wires. The engine has been overhauled with less than 800 miles since overhaul. A hydraulic cam was installed and the cam specs are included. The engine is extremely strong and responsive with excellent oil pressure, no leaks and sounds absolutely magnificent. Engine temperature always remains cool. The car runs and drives EXCELLENT! The car retains its original engine, transmission and rear end. As is common with Norwood built Camaros, the engine block vin stamp is located near the oil filter. We put the car on a lift in order to verify the originality and numbers on the engine and did indeed find the cars vin stamp in the oil filter location. We took photographs of the engine vin stamp, transmission vin stamp and rear end numbers to document the original drivetrain. These photos are available for your inspection. 302 Block Front pad - V0312DZ (Flint - March 12 -302ci/290hp) 302 Block Partial Vin - N617513 302 Block Casting - 3956618 Cylinder Heads - 3927186 Transmission - P9C06A (Muncie March 6, 1969 M20) Transmission Partial Vin - 19N617513 Rear Axle - BO 0318 G2 (3.73 12 Bolt March 18) Intake - Winters aluminum Distributor - 1111480 9C4 (March 4, 1969) Holley Carb - 3923289 DZ List 4053 Date 912 (Jan 2nd week, 1969) Cooling Fan - 3947772 B-69 (Feb 1969) Alternator - 9B19 (Feb 19, 1969) Exhaust Manifold Left - 3942527 C 3 9 - (March 3, 1969) Exhaust Manifold Right - 387230 D? 17 8 - (April 17, 1968) In addition to the original trim tag and original drivetrain components, other documentation included is the 1974 original dealer invoice from Adams Chevrolet in Norman, Oklahoma, various repair invoices, and photos of the 2nd owner with the car. The 2nd owners contact information will be provided to the new owner. In sum, this is a very well preserved and maintained 1969 Z/28 that still retains its original factory equipment and presented in a highly desirable color combination. It is very fortunate to find a 1969 Z28 that still has so much originality and is a no questions, Real, True Z/28. $59,500 obo.
