ZL-1 #17
Trying to find ZL-1 # 17, 124379N609462. This ZL-1 was originally sent to Gibb Chevrolet, It is cortez silver, standard black int., M-21 4speed. It was then sent back to GM and re-distributed to Roger Penske Chevy where it was eventually sold. I have tracked the car to the mid-west and it has not been registered for awhile. Car is supposedly still out there and is a running car.
This car used to hang around SRD ( Speed Research and developement ) Speed shop in the West Chester, PA area back in the day. Finders fee paid if I end up buying the car. Please call Mike at 215-491-3249 Thank you in advance for any information or history of this car

Re: ZL-1 #17
Anyone hear of/about/have any information on a ZL1 that was recently found in Florida, and is now being restored by someone named Darren Meynard(sp)in Omaha, NE?
Supposedly has the #match block still in it and was having parts sold off of it. Pretty interesting story if what I just heard is true. Guy answered an ad for a zl1 block for 20k on racingjunk.com and finds the rusty car at the guys house. Guy says he has been selling parts off the car for years, and this guy Darren buys what is left for 40k. Heard the car is cortez silver, is this the one you guys are asking about?

Re: ZL-1 #17
I have heard ZL-1 number 17 was or has been restored by a collector in Cali as a Z-28. I have also heard it is alive an well in the MidWest. I have called in some favors and it has been last registered in Oklahoma years back. I really would love to own this car. I am selling off my other two cars to make sure I have the cash to buy it if it comes available. The ZL-1 to me is the Holy Grail of muscle cars.

Re: ZL-1 #17
Mike,
Look up a Darren Maynard or Meynard from Omaha, NE. The word I got is that he is restoring this Cortez Silver ZL-1 for resale. He built a 69 street cruiser pro touring car and sold it at Barrett in Miami earlier this year, it was red or orange? So maybe you can find him that way. Good Luck! Rich

Re: ZL-1 #17
Hey guys, I know Darren and called him yesterday about this car. He knew nothing about it. He is building another custom 69 and is putting a ZL1 engine in it but the engine he bought came out of Wis and it has a replacement block not an original out of a real car. He is not a restorer and has no interest in original cars so where this story came from we don't know. If you want to verify this, call Kelly in Omaha and ask him. There is only 1 ZL1 around here and it is the rebodied #22 that hasn't even been started to be restored and is not for sale. Frank

Re: ZL-1 #17
Wow. I got the story from a friend is Mississippi, who had lunch with Darrens brother (works for the FBI or some such?) who said that Darren had the Zl1 resto on a web site. He (the friend, Don 'Mr Camaro' in Biloxi) is not web savy and wanted me to find the site so He could take a peek at it.
Guess it's like that class experiment, by the time it gets to you, it's different that what was said. I saw this thread, and thought it might be the same car. Sorry if there was any confusion.

Re: ZL-1 #17
#54 is in IL, owned by Ed Cunneens' brother in law. Last time I saw it it was about 75% complete.
