Z stripes
The decklid/spoiler stripes were painted with the spoiler on the car. The rear lower edge was taped horizontally for stripes. The factory stripes are rather sloppy on the front underside edge of the spoiler and have a crisp horizontal tape line on the rear lower edge of the spoiler. I have pics of an original paint Z spoiler showing the stripe paint line if you need.
The cowl panel was striped on the car also, with the top cowl area getting a blast of stripe color before the cowl panel was installed and striped. I have pics of an original cowl that has the factory white painted over it to match the stripe color pf the cowl panel. |

the two assembly plants handled them differently.
The above applies to Norwood built cars The Van Nuys built cars had the entire cowl painted stripe color, the rear stripes were a tad different as well, but for the life of me my CRS has kicked in and I don't recall what it was

Norwood produced Camaros can also have the entire cowl painted stripe color. For a mid year '69 Norwood built Camaro as he referenced that would not be typical.

From JohnZ's "Assembly Process" article at the CRG (link: http://www.camaros.org/assemblyprocess.shtml)
"If the car required Z28, Z10, or Z11 stripes or a black rear end panel or rockers, they were masked and manually sprayed in the in-line repair booth/oven system after the reflow oven, including the cowl vent panel; spoilers were painted body color separate from the body, and were final-installed to the deck lid just prior to the repair booth." and "The cowl vent panel was hung in the side window opening on wire hooks all the way through the paint process."

So yes, parts including spoilers and cowl panel were painted body color and then masked for stripes prior to the spoiler being installed to have stripes painted. Cowl panels could be striped hanging vertically, original paint examples have stripe color overspray coming out the wiper nozzle holes which likely would be on the bottom as striping is sprayed.

Here are pics of my original paint 07A Z/28 spoiler. I can take pics of my original paint cowl panel tomorrow if needed.
Hope this helps. My car is a Norwood Z. Last edited by 6667ss138; 10-10-2017 at 02:39 AM. |

Yes, that shows clearly the crisp rear horizontal tape line of the stripe on the rear of spoiler.
The front spoiler edge shows the overspray from the lack of tape covering that area, just like the original paint cars I have. |
