Default Minnesota Dragways records/literature

Hi everyone,

I have traced the ownership of my 1968 L72 Biscayne back to the original owner, Bob Kohnke, and Second Owner, Larry Myers, both of West Saint Paul.

Larry set a Modified Production track record at Minnesota Dragways with the Biscayne in either 1970 or 1971. He recalls it was in C/MP, but another gentleman who knows the car claims it was in A/MP, so not quite sure whose 4 decade old memory is most accurate.

Does anyone have any old programs, newsletters, etc. from Minnesota Dragways in 1970 or 1971 that could search for a 1968 Biscayne run by Larry Myers?

Thank you for your help,

Paul

A/MP seems hard to make as a heavy 68 Biscayne due to the horsepower to weight ratio that NHRA used back then. I do not have a 1970 rule book, but C/MP would seem closer to where the car would have ran.

There were several 427 biscaynes and belairs that ran hard back then at Minnesota Dragways.

I will check with a friend of mine who has some old Drag News papers from MN Dragways.

Does the original owner or second owner have any documentation?

I have some photos of some of the old programs/results and will look and see if I can find that name on them.

Thanks guys for checking your sources and looking through your stuff.

The Original Owner died this past August, but I have reached out to his family asking for any help; photos, documentation, etc. Will see how or if they respond.

The Second Owner, Larry Myers, raced the car and set the C/MP track record. He has confirmed a bunch of stuff about the car (holes in trunk, second set of welded crossmember mounts, etc.) and he is going to send me some photos of it when he raced it in 1969-1973. He also has old 8MM film of it that a friend shot when he raced it. He's sending me a copy of that.

Thanks again,

Paul

Glad to hear that you were able to track down some owners and info on your car.

That Facebook MN Dragways and North Star Drag Strip site have been great. Helped me find several lost photos of various cars I raced on as well as documenting others. Problem is, there are a LOT more out there but finding the owners of those photos can be tough as many of those people do not use Facebook and therefor don't even know the site exists.

Seeing as you're discussing MN Dragways and North Star Drag Strip, I've been looking for information about my 1969 L89 Chevelle that was originally delivered to Viking Chevrolet in St. Paul, MN in March of 1969. The Chevelle was Fathom Green with a green bench 4-speed.

I'll definitely check out those Facebook sites! Meanwhile, can you please keep my Chevelle in mind as you sift through local Minnesota racing and dealer information.
