'67 SS 427 Chevelles.....

Does anyone here know of any '67 SS427 Chevelles?

I remember seeing a couple of them, and wondered what dealer did conversions.

Appreciate any help on the subject.

There is a guy near me that has one. Swears it came that way from the factory. I'd argue with him, but he never smiles and might kick my a$$. He should be at the Water Mill show in a couple of weeks, I'll be holding my granddaughter if I ask about his cars history. [img]<<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/wink.gif[/img] I'll bring the camera.

All it takes is original documentation, bill of sale and so on, and all will be convinced. Pretty simple concept.

Always people swearing they had one/knew of one, but nothing yet has surfaced with any proof. Impala emblems fit perfectly and made for a convincing look.

Don't forget the Conroy Beaumont Cheetah cars we've discussed here in the past are real 427 A-Body dealer delivered cars!.

Which short or long block L36, L72 or other engines were used at conversion time and how many Cheetahs were SB or BB cars is unknown also determining real 427 cars from other Conroy cars can be difficult much like Yenko cars are as Conroy was selling lots of other hi-performance cars too!.

If all 427's cars delivered were built from L34/L35's isn't known either also GM Canada paperwork only shows these cars shipped to Conroy w/ L34 or L35's at best as Beaumont SD's were not available w/ L78's..

Lots more to learn about Conroy, Mander and other cool Canadian dealers!.

The '67 BM Chevelle was the one and only SS 427 Chevelle built by Motion in '67 so at least one documented car exists. There is a good write-up with pictures in the Motion book that was recently published. The car started as an L-78 396 from the factory and then got an aluminum head Motion built 427 before it was sold as a new car through Baldwin Chevrolet.

The usual question is whether the "factory" built a 427 Chevelle in 1967. We all know that dealers like Motion, Yenko, and Fred Gibb also did transplants as well as using the COPO ordering system to a do an end run around the normal system. Any other dealer could have installed a crate engine for a customer at his request. While the cars done by the big name dealers draw a much bigger dollar, I doubt that my local dealer's installs, had he done any, would grab the same attention or high dollar. Factory '67 427 Chevelles are about as rare as hens' teeth. We might see one yet some day. You just never know.

427 Engineering cars were probably built but considering how no factory 427 '67 Camaros were available, wouldn't it be expected the same situation w/ any A-Body cars shipped and transplants necessary at the dealer level?.

Thinking too of how the 9737 '68 Camaros were engineered for L72's but shipped w/ L78's, were things any more organized at A-Body plants...especially for 1967 cars!?

Anyone else remember a thread here within the past year or so w/ a small town dealer 66/67 A-Body L72 transplant story that sounded plausible?.
