Black '66 4-speed GTO in CT
This is what happens when you leave a nice car outside in the northeast. Looks pretty unmolested for $8k, and if it's an original-engine black on black 4-speed car as the description states, might be worth a gamble.

Getting more interesting...seller just posted an old appraisal from '86 stating the car had a 421/tripower...and posted a couple engine pics that clearly show the 3x2 setup.

I had always heard about a few expirmental cars, but can't imagine one actually made it out the door.
Found the following statement on line (so it must be true): The 421 engine was created for the 1965 2+2. This was a Pontiac Catalina, gold with white interior, 421 tri-power and a hurst 4 speed tranny. This car was only marketed 1 year. The 421 was experimented with in the 1966 GTO but was turned down. Some of the 421 GTO's were claimed by GM exec's and kind of faded away. There are still some in the basement of Pontiac Motor Division plant along wit tons of other experimental cars. So, is this a total fabrication? Regardless of whether original engine, would be a fun car. Shame they let it get so rusty.

VERY simple to find out how it left the factory.Get the vin and order the PHS on the car.Not that expensive. It could have been a dealer installed deal for sure but the PHS would not show that, just how it was built.Tom

----There was a Pontiac dealership that did 421 conversions in Massachusetts in 1966. I cant remember the name of the dealer. Maybe some of the other Mass guys can. There were two in my little town on Cape Cod. Both owned by two firemen. Ran pretty good!........Bill S
----Update,,, May have been the Pontiac dealer in Norwood Mass......Bill S Last edited by olredalert; 02-26-2018 at 05:48 PM. |
