Anyone dyno test/drag race their ZL1
I have read some of the posts about folks running their cars in a pure stock configuration (F70s and stock manifolds, ewwwww). Anyhow, hats off to any of you who can drive one of these beasts in that configuration.
I was wondering if anyone had a dyno test / timeslip of a ZL1. I had seen the one that Bill Porterfield did which was pretty informative. I was just wondering if anyone had come up with similar numbers for their engines with open headers. Also, I was wondering if anyone had drag raced a stocker with the "typical" upgrades? Open headers, and a set of slicks or "sticky tires", but otherwise stock and had any times for a car set up that way. |

Did Pete put you up to posting this ?
Pete Simpson has an original L-72 car that he put a ZL-1 in, and he regularly races his car(s) at the Pure/Factory Stock events. He can answer all of your questions. |

Oh, and he just returned from Norwalk where he turned a 12.16 on Polyglass tires...

Re: Anyone dyno test/drag race their ZL1
Yep. Rob is right. I run a ZL-1 in my COPO Camaro at the Pure/Factory Stock Drags. The motor has be disassembled at the races and checked for bore/stroke, piston dome, cc the heads, valves removed and checked for porting and intake checked and carb checked. Exhaust manifolds are also as cast with no work done. I run a 4:56 gear with F70-14's and a turbo 400 with the stock untouched 6 bolt converter. 12.16 is the best so far, but as soon as I get ride of the bog......look out!!!
