Phil, thanks for the legwork. Sounds as if the 350/300 could be used for the 396/325 4spd radiator( re-taged of course) using the tanks and built it into a 3 core which would be more desirable. I emailed Hector and hope he is following these posts......Pat

Pat,the BE is a fairly common Rad.,and was a 3 core.
It was used in many GM A & G-bodies from 1969-71.
It's original GM part # was 3016908.
It was used on all LS-3,L-35 & L-34 M/T equipped Monte Carlo & Chevelle/Elcos too.
Height-16.97
Width-28.30
Depth-1.26
Convolutions-.16
Frontal Area-480
Capacity-4.8 qts.

The 350/300HP engine used a 2 core rad.,(VA),and has a lower qt. capacity,width & frontal area compared to the 3 core BE.PartsPlace does repop the BE tag.

FYI, I have two original radiators here with "BE" tags, both unrestored and both are two core. It does seem odd for a BB to have a two-row core, but that is what I have. The small block 350/300 hp (1969 Chevelle) tag is "SB" which matches the build sheet for this car.

mr70, what source do you have stating that these should be 3 core? Your information always seems very accurate? I believe there may be a discrepancy here?

Phil, BE radiators were 2 row cored radiators. Maybe Rick has them confused with BO or BQ codes which were the 3-row manual trans radiators?

Yep I was wrong.The BE is a 2 core.
I was comparing it to a local L-34 M/T here,that in actuality has a BQ Rad. replacement with an incorrect BE tag attached,that the last owner installed awhile ago due to overheating problems he had once he installed taller rear gears.I actually should have noticed it sooner as the parts book calling the BE depth being 1.26,is much narrower then the actual radiator on the vehicle I looked at.

The "SB" is with a 350/300hp / TH350. I managed to get a spare radiator with the same code out of a similar car with a TH350.

My Chevrolet parts manual is far from complete regarding radiators and codes, even the 1969 manual that I picked up.

Good info being traded here. Learn new stuff every day.

OK then Rick and Phil, I will concentrate on finding a BO or BQ radiator or equivalent set of 3 row tanks. Lots of stuff to think about before pulling the trigger. Thanks.....Pat
