Re: '70 LS6 4900 MILES
Rick installed a 4:56 gear and the vacuum psi gauge in the dash when he drag raced it from 1970-77,among many other mods.
Sold it you & Buxbaum in 1977 w/2900 miles for 8K. Horace bought it from you guys in fall of 1978 after the accident, and had it repainted & repaired by Vic. Horace was going through a divorce in 1980 & sold it to Ray in Mich.,where it sat until 1995 when it was put up for sale in the Dupont registry by Ray. I've been following this car along time and the list of owners is too long to post here. I'm not saying who did what, but I documented this car in 1996 and recorded it all on videotape & paper at the time. Someone stole it's build sheet that was given with the car in 1995.I have a copy of it and another was found under the carpet later on too. It also came with a GM Arlington plant transit punch card originally.Someone stole that.I have a copy if it as well. I was surprised to learn that some of it's dated components today are not the exact same day/month/year that were on it when I looked at it in 1995. I can only suspect parts harvesting has taken place by some of it's past owners. |

And that car was delivered new with Firestone F70X14 wide Oval tires when new,not the Uniroyals it's wearing now.

Unfortunately, that lie has been repeated so many times over the past 15 years or so that it has become 'fact'

Re: '70 LS6 4900 MILES
----Rick,,,Thanks for the compilation. You have summed up the history perfectly. Richard and I were partners but only because I didn't have the whole eight. We had different ideas about what direction to go with the car and we decided to run it thru Richards auction in Bolingbrook and split the proceeds. I really didn't want to sell it. It was on the way to the auction with one of our mechanics driving when the accident happened. It wasn't his fault as someone pulled out from a side street but it was a sad day! I took one look at the car after the auction while it was stuffed into a tight garage and felt it was totaled. We had a body and paint guy back then (Vic Studer, RIP) who was an absolute genius and that's where Horace took the car. He worked wonders and today the car does appear beautiful, although its had much work done since then. I would be misstating things though if I didn't say that I apparently thought the accident was worse than it was.......Bill S

Re: '70 LS6 4900 MILES
A few vintage photos taken before & after the accident.
First 3 were taken while Rick M. owned & raced it @ Oswego Raceway Park..those photos taken by Steven J. back then. The next two are from Hemmings Motor News Jan. '78,when Classic Motors posted it for sale BEFORE the accident happened. The ones after that, were taken by it's 3rd owner Horace in fall 1978,after he bought it and was amassing the many parts to fix it by Vic. I have all the receipts showing every intricate part Horace & Vic had to buy for it,and the cost of each back then.He & Vic kept meticulous records. The car was going south down a road, when another pulled out in front of it off a side street on the passenger side from the west, causing Bills driver to slow down and swerve, but unfortunately not enough to avoid damage. After impact, the car at fault spun around and took out the passenger side. The front end, hood & passenger side fender, door & 1/4 panel were all damaged,to say the least.Notice the P/S hood pin is bent out. You can see a new black primer door skin waiting to be installed, still in it's packaging, leaning against the door.. |

Re: '70 LS6 4900 MILES
These photos were taken in 1980 by Horace, right after Vic fixed & painted it to incredible standards, that to this day, fool many.

Re: '70 LS6 4900 MILES
June of 1976 those 3 Oswego Raceway Park dragstrip photos were taken.
The Cragars & slicks were taken off,and the original Firestone F70 14's were put back on when it sold to Classic Motors in 1977. |
