Re: Factory 454 1970 Camaro
There were a lot of 1970 Camaro options that got the axe before going into production.
One was the 1970 Camaro cowl induction hood. A few prototypes were built. They were all steel construction built in the Chevy custom fabrication shop. One was saved from the scrap yard by Bill Grumpy Jenkins to use on his 1970 Camaro Pro Stock show car. I know is a true story because I bought it from Bill with a letter from him on where and how he got it and have pictures of it on his 70 Pro Stock show car. There are a bunch of stories where Chevy would scrap parts but on the way to the scrap yard the parts would go to people like Bill Thomas, Smokey Yunick, Jenkins, Yenko, and others who did work or raced for Chevy. |

Evidently the truck drivers knew people that would pay more.

Re: Factory 454 1970 Camaro
Any pictures of this cowl induction hood? I don't think I've ever seen a prototype '70 hood.

Re: Factory 454 1970 Camaro
GM scrap engineering and test parts are still getting into the hands of the performance community.

Re: Factory 454 1970 Camaro
I don't have the time to go thru my photobucket, but if you search Grumpy's toy #7 you will see his 70 Camaro with what looks like a low L-88 hood. That was steel and GM gave him a few of them to use. He used one on Toy#8 with a Grump lump mounted on it.
