I have two sets of "born with" hood hinges that I took off of real 1970 Chevelle SS's with the ZL-2 hoods, that have no Fisher carriage logo on them @ all.I've always believed there was more then one manufacturer for these.I think A.O.Smith was one.
There were no SS & Non SS 1970 Chevelle hood hinges,as they were identical, but the springs they used on the two were different. These hinges fit 1970-72 El Caminos too. Last edited by Mr70; 10-13-2017 at 05:16 PM. |

Interesting subject. I had never paid any attention to the Fisher Body logo until a number of years ago when someone brought it to my attention. From then on I started looking at every survivor I came across. This is what I found. All survivor cowl induction cars had the Fischer Body logo on the hinge, all Malibu's had no markings and NO 70 Chevelle had the part number. My understanding is the part numbered units came over the counter in later years. What I cannot understand though is the is NO difference between a Malibu hinge vs an SS hinge other than the springs so there must be something more than coincidence why I find the Fischer Body logo only on SS cars. It does not seem to matter which plant or time period the car was produced though I have not looked at any Oshawa survivors.

I agree with Rick Nelson and not MR70
I go by experience and every cowl hood or domed hood as a survivor I inspected or have seen had the Fisher Body logo. My customers only want the Fisher Body logo hinges for there SS's anyways as they have been schooled that the other hinges are most likely incorrect for SS cars for the die hard anal restorer. When I go picking at swap meets I now only look for the Fisher Logo ones as the other ones are a dime a dozen USED as I see tons of those. Also without a part number at all they might as well be a repro that has no part number. NOS ones are great too but not technically correct IMO. Again my thoughts are from my experience and I'll stick to what I see. For me Body Fisher Logo for SS hoods or nothing.

I looked through all the photos I took of that car back when you owned it but of course none of them showed the exact angle of the top part of the hinge so I was not sure. I did not even know about that logo back then so you may be correct.
