Fun day!!!
Lynn Stager has been sleuthing for me and found Al’s main contact at County Garage Ayr Ltd.
I was able to call him to chat today, fun to say the least. Bill K. was a mechanic and part time sales person at the time. He remembered Al ordering the car from Bob Marson (RIP passed away a few years ago) He said the car was a 2 Door Post right awayJ Bill remembered that the car had the W package with the high performance 350 and HD 4 Speed trans. He thought it had power steering and brakes but quickly remembered the low vacuum precluded power brakes. I mentioned that the short block had been replaced under warranty and he agreed. “Yes I replaced that engine” J Bill said he had to send away the original short block back to GM, he told me “this means the car is no longer numbers matching” he said lots of components have codes on them like carburetors, starters, etc that link them to a specific car. I asked if he had any dealer memorabilia or knew of anyone who would have a dealer tag. He said they used a dealer sticker instead of a tag and that he would look around for me.
We talked about the documentation and history of the car and he said I had a really rare car and absolutely got it for the original ownerJ it is fun to confirm the past of my car.
I plan to visit Al and Lynn tonight so Bill asked if I would say hi as he hasn’t seen Al in years, which I absolutely will do. I also asked if he would be agreeable to meeting for coffee with Al to shoot the breeze, he said that would be great.
Fun car stuff!!
Ryan

I am having a killer Muscle Car day!!!

I visited with the original owners of my Cutlass W31 Tonight and we had a super fun chat!! Lots of time to talk about kids, grand kids, cars, you name it!! I shared how the chassis resto is going to progress and what has been competed so far. We talked about MCACN and I am very happy and proud to say they accepted my invitation to be part of the 2018 W31 Invitational Showcase:-) this is what the whole car thing is about for me!! Shiny metal is nice to look at but I quickly forget about the shiny cars with no history.... this “patina” car has made me new friends all over the place including the Stager’s “More than just a car”

Ryan

PS: The Stager’s say hi “Pete”

Took a quick run to Sam Grewal's last night for two 14 X 6 steel wheels.

I have 3 originals, and I got one from Dave Siltman... but I forgot about a spare.

The resto shop will paint them glade green when they touch up my car.

I spent the afternoon, jacked up the frame, washed every nook and crannie.

I removed the trans cross member to paint it bare steel. I started getting the brakes ready to assemble.

I need to get Boe-Shield for the non painted items.
