Default a can of worms

What ever happened to the big project of collecting and sorting out the General Motors records for the Chevrolet produced Camaro, Corvette and other models? Did Jim Mattison find ANY information? Perhaps having to constantly get permission to go any where or collect information; doomed the project to failure. Imagine if your 427 was only a 396 according to the General.
Just as well to leave that can of worms unopened...

I believe it will happen......someday.Just look at how much info is out there to compile and put into some type of database. Now do it on a part time basis....when you have permission from GM brass...One small step forward and three large leaps back...I can only imagine how low this is on GM's to do list....You can't live in the past while your a$$ is being kicked by Japan..

The lack of support for the search would imply it is not going to happen. Also for a more subtle reason; how the GM of Canada records are handled. In the past you got a copy of the actual records including the serial number being searched. For more than a decade now you just get a list of the described options with the serial number on a letterhead.

It would be great if it would happen, but it doesn't sound like it ever will. Here's a good read on it from Team Chevelle...

That is the search that Perkins dispatched looking for records years ago. That story is true but is old news. This thread and topic posted here (I suspect) is posed as a question from more recent developments.

I have no doubt that some of this information exists but as indicated in a previous post, how many more cars will GM sell by making this information available to the public? I guess someone could make a good business case to them by saying that they could sell each document for $1,000 intially. I would pay that in a heartbeat to document my 69 RS/Z.
